The Quality
of Fresh Drinking Water:
Polluted with nitrate, nitrite, sulphate
- lime (softening), ammonium, potassium - Organic substances, as well as chlorine,
pesticides, volatile halogenated hydrocarbons, flavoring and odor
substances - Lead, mercury, cadmium, etc. - Iron, manganese, etc. -
Combining properties of activated carbon and REDOXOL-SM - Combining
properties of activated carbon and REDOXOL-Fe - Eliminates bacteria,

“We live on a blue
planet. Water plays a decisive role in the life of any organism,
whether it is a plant, an animal, or a human being. However, only a very
small amount of the entire water resources
- about 0.3% - is
available as potable water. This comparable small amount of drinking
water is
endangered: scientists are concerned about the increase of contamination of our
potable water resources. To safe nature and to
protect our environment we have to
change our behaviour and customs in radical ways.”

Overview of contaminants
& their health effects
Living Machines ® treat
wastewater based on a 'whole systems' approach to biological technology.
They utilise a set of sequenced, complete ecologies. Treatment can be
taken to advanced standards in cost effective projects which are reliable,
robust and aesthetically pleasing. The approach represents a shift from
high energy, chemically intensive treatment, to the adoption of the
principles of ecological engineering.

Eco-Restorer
Living
Technologies Ltd (LTL) designs and builds ecological wastewater
treatment systems in co-operation with various partner organisations. We
work with three main types of Ecological Treatment System:
These technologies are inspired by
ecosystems as old as the earth itself. They accelerate nature's own water
purification process, and help to conserve and recycle natural resources.
Using the principles of ecological engineering, wastewater treatment
takes place through a series of tanks and other managed environments, in
which a diversity of organisms transform the waste in the water. Unlike
conventional systems, they incorporate helpful bacteria, plants, snails
and fish that thrive by breaking down and digesting organic pollutants. Living

Pharmaceuticals and personal
care products (PPCPs), or prescription and over-the-counter drugs,
ranging from antibiotics to fragrances and sun-screen agents, have been
widely detected in surface waters in Europe and the United States.
That
glass of tap water may contain a dozen different drugs.

Drugs
In The Water - A new
class of water pollutants has been discovered during the past six years.
Pharmaceutical drugs given to people and to domestic animals including
antibiotics, hormones, strong pain killers, tranquilizers, and
chemotherapy chemicals given to cancer patients are being measured in
surface water, in groundwater and in drinking water at the tap. Large quantities
of drugs are excreted by humans and domestic animals, and are distributed
into the environment by flushing toilets and by spreading manure and
sewage sludge onto and into soil.
